Indians do the laughing tonight

The Indians turned the tables on the Tigers tonight pounding them 11-1 to avenge last night's Tigers rout. Justin Verlander had a rough outing throwing 104 pitches and allowing five runs in just five innings. His control was not good as he walked four and hit two batters. Zach Miner continued to get lit up in relief allowing an Indian cycle and 5 runs in just one inning. He now has a 15.75 ERA in six appearances and you have to wonder how many more chances he'll get before they send him to Toledo.

After showing some life the past three nights, the Tiger bats went silent again tonight especially with men on base as Indians starter Fausto Carmona and three relievers held them to one run on seven hits. The Tigers actually had several opportunities to score more runs but they left nine men on base. No Tiger had more than one hit.

They now head to Toronto for a four game series against the Blue Jays. Tomorrow night, it will be Kenny Rogers versus rokkie David Purcey just called up from Syracuse. .

Notes:

Rod Allen confirmed on tonight's broadcast that Curtis Granderson will begin his rehab in West Michigan this weekend and that Jim Leyland would like to see him get at least 25-30 at bats before playing for the Tigers. That would be a pretty long rehab stint but it sounds like he should be back in about a week from now which is good news.

The news on Fernando Rodney is somewhat good. Any time you leave Dr James Andrews office without requiring surgery, it has to be viewed as a positive. Andrews said he has no structural damage but as long he has pain when he throws, none of this will be great news.

  1. Agreed, time for Miner to go. Especially when you consider how well guys like Lopez have pitched after coming up from Toledo.
