Floyd, White Sox blank Tigers

Gavin Floyd no hit the Tigers for 7 1/3 innings today and combined with Scott Linebrink and Bobby Jenks on a two hit 7-0 shutout. Edgar Renteria broke up the no hit bid with a single in the eighth and Brandon Inge added a single in the ninth. Even with two hits, the Tigers still managed to ground into three double plays. They have now hit into a league leading 19 double plays. They are also last in the league with just 33 runs scored in 11 games.

Justin Verlander pitched better than his final line allowing just two hits and one run over 7 innings before tiring in the eighth. After retiring the first batter in the eighth, he proceeded to allow 5 runs on two hits, a walk and two hit batsmen. I would guess that the reason he was left in so long was that the bullpen was forced to pitch nine innings last night.
