The Tigers designated Yorman Bazardo for assignment and recalled Clap Rapada from Toledo today. Bazardo needs to clear waivers before he can be sent to Toledo but I suspect that won't be a problem as he does not seem ready for the majors right now. Bazardo contributed two bases on balls to last night's embarrassing walk parade (9 walks by 4 pitchers) and has now given up 8 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks in 3 innings so far this season.
After being acquired from the Cubs last year as the player to named in the Craig Monroe trade, Rapada was shelled in his brief stint with the Tigers last September. He had, however, had some success in the minors and could work out as a situational lefty. Rapada has a 3.00 ERA and 310 strikeouts while allowing just 12 homers in 315 minor league innings, mostly in the Cubs system.
The Tigers figure to be shuffling their bullpen all year long so stay tuned.
