Tigers still winless

The Tigers hit a little better today but still lost to the White Sox 8-5. Among their 11 hits were three apiece by center fielder Clete Thomas (three singles and a stolen base) and Pudge Rodriguez (two doubles and a single). The Tigers also had six walks for a total of 17 base runners but left 10 men on base and hit into a pair of double plays.

Nate Robertson was not sharp allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings but left with the game tied 5-5. The go ahead runs came home in the 7th inning when fan favorite Jason Grilli allowed five straight hits for three runs. Grilli was showered with a chorus of boos for much of the inning.

Miguel Cabrera returned to the Tigers line-up today as a designated hitter going 1 for 2 with 3 walks. Inge played third base and made a couple of very nice defensive plays. Thomas was in the line-up because Gary Sheffield has a torn tendon in his left ring finger. He is not expected to go on the disabled list.
