Willis to DL, Galarraga to start

Dontrelle Willis has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a hyper-extended knee suffered when he slipped and fell on the mound last night. Ryan Raburn has been recalled to take his place on the roster. They will later call up Armando Galarraga who will take Dontrelle's place in the rotation. He will probably pitch on Wednesday. There is no word yet on who will go down when Galarraga is added to the roster.

Galarraga is a 26 year old right-hander who pitched well in his first two stars for Toledo this year compiling a 2.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts against 1 walk in 12 innings. Last year, he pitched for AA Frisco and AAA Oklahoma in the Rangers organization posting a combined 4.17 ERA and 135/58 K/BB ratio in 151 innings. He appeared in three games for the Rangers late in the year. He was acquired by the Tigers in exchange for outfielder Michael Hernandez after the season.

According to the Baseball America Prospect Handbook, Galarraga throws in the low 90s with a fastball that he keeps low in the strike zone. He also has an above average slider and an adequate change-up. They see him has a potential 5th starter in the majors.
