Tigers Get Clay Rapada for Monroe

It's PTBNL day. Earlier, I wrote about the acquisition of Chris Lambert for Mike Maroth. They also completed the Craig Monroe deal by acquiring Clay Rapada from the Cubs. Rapada is a 26 year old left-handed reliever who may have a future as a lefty specialist. He will join the Toledo MudHens roster initially but might join the Tigers after the AAA playoffs are over. He has been added to the Tigers 40 man roster and Aquilino Lopez has been outrighted to make room.

Rapado had a 3.58 ERA and a 50/25 K/BB ratio in 55 1/3 innings as a reliever for AAA Iowa this year. In 20 2/3 innings against left-handed batters, he had a 1.31 ERA and .159 batting average against. According to John Sickels, he has a funky sidearm delivery so if nothing else he'll be fun to watch. He's a soft tosser who tops out at 87 miles per hour and also has a slider and curve.

Miller Down, Vasquez Up

In yet another move today, Andrew Miller was optioned out and Virgil Vasquez was re-called from Toledo. Vasquez will start Friday's game versus Oakland.
