Pettitte Tames Tigers

The much anticipated debut of Cameron Maybin did not turn out too well and neither did the game tonight. The Final score was 6-1 Yankees. Here are a few quick notes:
  • Maybin went o for 4 including 2 strikeouts and running into his own batted ball for an out. He also made poor routes on a couple of fly balls, one of them landing for a 2 run double. The 20 year old debuting in Yankee Stadium was likely very nervous so I'll give him a mulligan tonight.
  • Andy Pettitte was brilliant holding the Tigers to 1 run on 5 hits through 8 innings. The only run scored in the second when Ryan Raburn singled and Brandon Inge Doubled.
  • Ryan Raburn was the only Tiger with 2 hits and is now batting .342.
  • Nate Robertson gave up 5 runs in 6 innings but had some tough luck. A bad hop single with two outs in the third helped turn a no run inning into a 2 run inning. Then there was the 2 run double by Andy Phillips in the 6th inning which was poorly tracked by Maybin. To be fair, I'm not sure Raburn, Marcus Thames or Craig Monroe would have caught it either. Robertson did create his own problems by allowing 10 hits.
  • The Indians topped the Rays 2-1 and moved into first place by a 1/2 game.
  • Game 3 of the series will have Chad Durbin facing Roger Clemens tomorrow afternoon.
