First round of spring cuts

The Tigers announced their first round of spring training cuts this morning and not surprisingly they included Rick Porcello. Lakeland Flying Tigers fans will be happy to find out that his contract was optioned to Lakeland where he will begin his professional career. The complete list of cuts is shown below:

Rick Porcello P
Armando Galaraga P
Macay McBride P
Jeff Gerbe P
Joe Bowen C
Dusty Ryan C
James Skelton C
Danny Werth SS
Jeff Larish 1B
Wilkin Ramirez OF
Clete Thomas OF
Matt Joyce OF

There were no surprises on the list. It was mostly players who need more minor league playing time and were not real candidates to come north with the team anyway. The moves left the Tigers with 46 players still in camp - 35 from the 40 man roster and 11 non-roster invites. Obviously, this means they need to make 21 more cuts before opening day.
