The Tigers picked up Ivan Rodriguez's $13 million option for the 2008 season today. Despite rumors to the contrary, this news is not a big surprise. I think it's a lot of money for someone who is really an average player at this point of his career but, considering other available options, it was probably the right thing to do. I'm glad they picked up the option rather than try to work out a longer term deal at his age.
The next order of business will be to see whether Kenny Rogers and Todd Jones will be back for another year. If not, then they they'll be looking for a reliever/starter. Then there is the matter of finding a new shortstop and perhaps left fielder.
