Average Range Rank for Right Fielders

Today, I’ll look at Average Range Rank for right fielders. There were 28 players with 600 or more innings in right field in 2005. Here are the highlights:

  • Magglio Ordonez (ARR=20.0) and Craig Monroe (ARR=20.5) ranked 23rd and 24th respectively. Ordonez’s ranks varied from 16th (PMR) to 24th (Gassko) while Monroe’s ranks varied from 12th (zone rating) to 26th (PMR). According to these numbers, the Tiger’s probable corner outfielders in 2005 did not cover enough ground in 2005.
  • Baseball’s leaders were Geoff Jenkins (6.3), Austin Kearns (6.5) and Ichiro Suzuki (6.5).
  • Baseball’s worst was Larry Walker (24.3). This is probably one of the reasons why the once stellar defender retired after the season.

  1. Wow. Wow.

I always thought that Monroe was a bonehead, but that his defense other than his decision-making was pretty good. I guess not. Very poor. And I'm amazed to see Aubrey Huff in the middle of the pack.
