Tiger Bats Go Silent

The Tigers returned to Comerica Park today after a 7 game road trip in which they scored 8.4 runs per game. Tonight, they were shutout by the Mets 3-0 in the first game of a 3 game weekend series. Jorge Sosa held them to 4 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings and Billy Wagner pitched a perfect ninth to close it out. The Mets were powered by solo homers off the bats of David Wright in the 4th and Carlos Delgado in the 7th.

Chad Durbin, who has become the Tigers 3rd most reliable starter, pitched well again. He worked 8 innings allowing just 3 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk. That would usually be good enough to win with the Tigers offense but tonight he was not so lucky. Durbin had entered the game with a league best 8.4 runs per game of support.

Game two will be tomorrow afternoon at 3:55. The pitching matchup will be Jeremy Bonderman versus Oliver Perez.
