Open Blog: Second Half Predictions

I'm going to Cape Cod for the weekend and won't be anywhere near a computer until I get back home Sunday night. So, I'm going to leave an open blog for the weekend. Tell me your second half predictions:

(1) How many games will the Tigers win?
(2) Will they make the playoffs ?
(3) Which player will have the biggest second half?
(4) Which player will disappoint in the second half?

Post your answers in the comments below.

  1. (1) 95 wins.

    (2) yes, wild card

    (3) Bonderman will be their best pitcher. His stats will be similar to his first half but he will get more support and win more often. He'll be recognized as the #1 pitcher on the staff.

    (4) It's too easy to say Todd Jones so I'll say Kenny Rogers has a mediocre second half like he has had in past years.

    90 wins

    No playoffs

Marcus Thames will continue to hit- and continue to lose at bats and batting lineup placement to weaker hitters.

Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson should both fall back to earth somewhat. Pudge will hit the DL.

100 wins which will not be enough for a division title because the Sox will win 102.

Probably, although there are the Yankees, Red Sox and A's to worry about in a wildcard race.

Bonderman. Ditto what Lee Pinas said. (I already recognize him as the #1 - check his HR/9 and K/BB ratios)

Nate Robertson will have his usual 2nd half drop-off. Guillen and/or Ordonez might suffer some time on the DL.

    104 wins

    division title, by 3 games

Bonderman will shine in the second half like he did in 2004. Maggs will also have a really good second half (33hrs, 133rbis)

Kenny Rogers will not be nearly as good in the second half (5-7 4.87 era).

    95-100 wins.

Yes to the playoffs, but wouldn't be supprised if the Sox end up with the division.

I'm gonna go with popular oppinion here and agree with Bonderman for best second half. I'll say Granderson will be excellent at the plate. He's a smart kid and will have a better feel for opposing pitching in the 2nd half, plus might even have a shot at a Gold Glove.

Thames is the player I expect to drop off the most. I think pitchers are realizing he's a power threat and are now figuring out how to pitch him. I see the rest of the rotation dropping off some, but not so serious as to be a dissapointment.

    Kurt here.

    1) 98 wins
    2) Yes.
    3) Bonderman has put it all together finally and will show it off.
    4) i'd say Nate Robertson has to cool off, as does Marcus Thames.

  8. 92

    No - just miss.

    Bonderman

I think Rogers is going to drop off, but a DL-trip for first-half MVP Carlos Guillen kills the team over a two week stretch.

    1) 102 wins

    2) Yes, division champ by one game.

    3) Jeremy Bonderman will continue to improve and finish with a 20+ win season. He will be the Tigers most consistent pitcher in the second half.

Dmitri Young will also respond to the stumble in his career prospects and put his head back on to have a good stretch run. This will help solidify the Tiger batting from the left side of the plate.

    4) Kenny Rogers will have his annual falloff in the second half. His second half ERA will be in the vicinity of 4.25 marking a smaller dropoff than past years (which will be good news). He will finish with an 17 win season.

Marcus Thames will also dropoff some as the pitchers figure him out and he learns to adjust to the pressure and grind of a long season in the playoff hunt.
