The Tigers banged out 21 hits in today's game but still managed to lose to the Chicago White Sox 12-9. Today's loss completed a three game sweep and the Tigers have now lost 4 in a row. Justin Verlander, who pitched brilliantly last Saturday, got shelled for 7 hits and 7 runs in 2 2/3 innings. The bullen was not much better as Jason Grilli, Bobby Seay and Chris Spurling combined to give up 6 runs on 7 hits in 4 1/3 innings. It was an awful day for the young staff.
Offensively, every Tiger had two or more hits with the exception of Curtis Granderson who had one hit. Omar Infante, who played third base in place of Brandon Inge, lead the way with four hits. Chris Shelton went 3 for 5 to raise his batting average to .514 and hit his 7th home run of the season. Jim Thome tied Shelton for the homerun lead at 6 with a solo shot in the first but Shelton took the lead back when he hit a two run shot in the 4th inning.
The Tigers now host the hard hitting Cleveland Indians for 4 games. Kenny Rogers will face Jake Westbrook tomorrow night at 7:00.
