Tigers sign Mantei

According to WPXI.COM out of Pittsburgh, the Tigers have signed 32 year old relief pitcher Matt Mantei to a minor league contract and invited him to Spring training. Mantei has struggled with various injuries throughout much of his career but can be dominant when healthy. The former Florida Marlin and Arizona Diamondback closer has a lifetime 4.07 ERA and a k/9IP ratio of 11.0 in 315 games. He is coming off a season where he struggled with control and missed the second half of the season with a sprained ankle. He's probably a longshot for a comeback but he's a low risk signing with a potentially high reward. The complete list of Tiger Spring training invites can be found on Billfer's Detroit Tiger Weblog.
