For the 11th year, Tom Tango is conducting his fan scouting report
on fielding skills. The survey is a very valuable resource, so I'm
encouraging all knowledgeable fans who watch a lot of Detroit Tigers
games to participate. Many readers of this blog have participated in
the past and said it was fun and it only takes a few minutes.
The survey asks fans to rate the fielding skills
of players on their favorite teams just based on observation. You will
be asked not to use any stats at all and also not to vote based on what
somebody else told you. Just use your own eyes as if you were a
scout. Past results were very interesting and informative, but a large
sample size is needed in order for them to be useful again this year.
Some of the results appear in the Bill James Handbook which comes out
every November and also FanGraphs.com So, I urge all of you to complete the ballot.

Where's the scouting report card for baserunning? I'm suddenly inspired to fill one out for Boston's Ross who just had a terrible slide attempt at home. He didn't go for collision or for a tactful angle to avoid the tag. He basically slid the worst way humanly possible to give him no chance to score. I don't even think he touched the plate at any point either. Ugly stuff and pathetic effort and focus for a WS game.
ReplyDeleteOk and now that could have been an out if the LF didn't stutter and freeze from a ball that was a long ways away. What was he afraid of? That ball was going to do some freak squirting by him and then what would have that have even done, so what? Did he really think the guy would get a triple out of that from that bouncy position, how is that going to happen? I guess if it does a freak bounce in a way that a ball has never bounced before, or suddenly speeds up and gets a lot faster. Lame-brain thinking out there. Just more ugly play from another Red Sox player, this one can go right onto the spreadsheet report though!
