Tigers Offer Arbitration to Rodney and Lyon

According to Jason Beck, the Tigers have offered arbitration to Fernando Rodney and Brandon Lyon but not to Placido Polanco. This is what I had expected. Rodney and Lyon have until December 7 to accept their offers. Since they can probably get multi-year deals, I suspect they will both decline. The Tigers can still negotiate with both pitchers if they do not accept.

If another team signs either Rodney or Lyon, then the Tigers would get a supplemental pick between the first and second rounds of the 2010 First Year Player Draft. The Tigers will not get compensated if Polanco signs elsewhere. They will also not receive compensation if any of their other free agents - Jarrod Washburn, Aubrey Huff, and Adam Everett - sign with another team. That would have been the case even if they were offered arbitration as they were all Type C free agents. The Tigers have already announced that neither Washburn nor Huff is coming back.
