As expected, there are lots of rumors coming out of Indianapolis today. Most of them are purely speculation and should not be taken seriously but the Tigers seem to have genuine interest in acquiring a reliever. They are one of several teams interested in free agent reliever Kevin Gregg. Gregg is a closer who has accumulated 84 saves over the last three seasons but has a lifetime 4.10 ERA and has walked 3.6 per 9 innings. There are also some rumblings about George Sherrill of the Dodgers but nothing solid. The Tigers pursuit of relievers suggests that they don't think they can sign either Fernando Rodney or Brandon Lyon.
In other news, New York writer Joel Sherman says the Yankees really want Curtis Granderson. I'm not surprised though. Wouldn't most teams want him?
Jason Beck runs down the players who could potentially be traded. This includes Laird who I believe is one of the more likely players to be traded. He hasn't been in the headlines as much as Granderson and Edwin Jackson but, with Alex Avila expected to get more playing time in the near future, I think there is a good chance Laird will be dealt.
If I were a betting man, I'd say Jackson and Laird would be dealt this week or later. A decent young starting pitcher would be part of the return. I think Granderson is staying and I'm very confident Miguel Cabrera is staying. Yeah, I can speculate too.
