Google Finally Likes Tiger Tales

When I type "Detroit Tigers" into Google, my blog rarely shows up in the top 100 if it shows up at all. On top of that, my page rank is zero which is strange given that I consistently get links from bigger sites. Today, when I typed "Detroit Tigers" into Google, Tiger Tales was the third item listed. The only thing ahead of it was a couple of links to DetroitTigers.com. What?

It's silly for my blog to be ranked ahead of powerhouses like Detroit Tigers Weblog and Bless You Boys and various Tigers news sites so I don't really know what's going on. I haven't done anything different to make it happen. It must be because I just wrote an article about the great Derek Jeter! I fully expect to be back on page 23 by the end of the week behind blogs that have been dead for five years but I'll enjoy my ranking while it lasts.

Edit: That didn't last long. I'm been bumped down to page 5 already

You deserve to be on the first page Lee. Your stories on our Tigers with the graphs and charts are excellent as are the other Tigers bloggers you mentioned. I read 'all the Tigers blogs daily' and my only gripe is that I wish there were more Tigers articles-news. Keep up the good work. Ron aka KalineCountry
I also live in metro boston, so there are at least two Tigers fans here in Mass.

  2. None of it makes sense, Lee. Mack Avenue Tigers is listed third on "detroit tigers blog" but disappears entirely for "detroit tigers."

    Hi Lee:

I think your 15 minutes are over now? I guess this was just some fluke about Google's ranking algorithms. Maybe you can do some reverse engineering and up your page rank? I want to second the first poster - you deserve to have a higher profile in the blogosphere and I'm not sure why you don't other than a lack of references to Derek Jeter or Brittney Spears :)

I hope you don't mind my commenting - I don't usually do this much - but I do sincerely think you have some great insights. Also I learned recently that it's generally thought that having a lot of comments on a blog is a good thing, though I'm not clear why that is... Go Tigers!

  4. The intangibles and the pure awesomeness of Jeter propelled your site. If someone made a blog dedicated to Jeter they would become millionaires.

    Lee,
I rarely comment on anything, but read your blog often...your statistical analysis of various aspects of the game is very much appreciated...it is obviously time consuming and would be too difficult for many of us to understand, let alone do...yet I think the "numbers" provide insight that real fans can't get enough of...Thank you,
    Arlie
