Streak Ends at Seven

Todd Helton belted a home run on a 3-0 pitch from Andres Galarraga in the sixth inning to put the Rockies in front 4-3. The way the Tigers have been going, we expected the Tigers to come back but it never happened. Cabrera walked in the sixth with two outs but Jason Marquis then struck out Magglio Ordonez. Gerald Laird got a two out double in the seventh but failed to score. Ordonez and Jeff Larish walked against closer Huston Street in the ninth but Laird struck out to end the game. So, the Tigers lost 4-3 and the seven game winning streak is over. The good news is the that the Royals were blanked by the Cardinals for the second straight game 5-0 and remain four behind the Tigers.

Armando Galarraga was a little better tonight but still not very good. He allowed four runs on six hits, including four four for extra bases, in 5 1/3 innings. Dexter Fowler tripled and scored in the first and Chris Iannetta and Todd Helton each slugged solo homers later. On a positive note, Brandon Lyon looked sharp in two innings of perfect relief.

Miguel Cabrera got the Tigers on the board with a solo homer, his ninth of the year, leading off the second inning. They scored two more to tie the game at three in the fifth inning on singles by Ordonez, Ryan Raburn and Laird. That would be the end of the scoring though.
