Rick Porcello continued his excellent month of May today as he pitched six strong innings of the Tigers 8-3 victory over the Royals. Porcello allowed just two runs on four hits and a walk and added four strikeouts. The home run he allowed to Mark Teahen was the first Rick has surrended this month. The twenty-year-old rookie now has a 1.50 ERA, a 20/10 K/BB ratio and one homer allowed in 30 innings this month. Not surprisingly, the Tigers have won all five games he has started this month.
After collecting just four hits in his previous 26 at bats, Josh Anderson lead off today and went four for five. Miguel Cabrera hit a homer and continues to lead the league with a .374 batting average. Placido Polanco went two for four with his first homer of the season knocking in three runs. Magglio Ordonez extended his hitting streak to 12 games and has batted .340/.421/.460 over that period.
The victory gave the Tigers a two to one series win over the Royals and they now lead the the AL Central by four games over both Kansas City and Minnesota. They now go to Baltimore for a four game series to close out the month of May.
