Tigers Sweep Indians

The Tigers completed a 3 game sweep of the Indians with a 3-2 victory today. According to Mack Avenue Tigers, this was the first Tiger sweep in Cleveland since 1990. This was an Indians team which came into the series having scored more runs than any team in baseball and the Tiger pitchers held them to just 6 runs in 3 games. The Tigers are now 24-13 which ties them with the White Sox for the best record in baseball pending tonight's White Sox/Twins game.

On Friday night, the Tigers took the first game of the series 5-4. In yesterday's game, Jeremy Bonderman and Todd Jones combined for a 3-0 shutout. It was a very encouraging performance by Bonderman who has been a little shaky at times this year. He dominated baseball's hottest offense holding them to 3 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Roller coaster Jones allowed two hits in the 9th but managed to get the save. Chris Shelton paced the Tiger offense with a home run and a double.

In today's game, Mike Maroth gave up only one unearned run in 6 innings before leaving the game after a rain delay. Jason Grilli, Jamie Walker, Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney allowed 6 base runners but only one run over the last 3 innings. The Tigers scored all of their runs in the 7th inning on singles by Carlos Guillen and Chris Shelton, a double by Craig Monroe and an error by Cleveland first baseman Eduardo Perez.

One of the positive signs of the last two days was Chris Shelton. After batting .500 in the first 13 games of the season, Shelton slumped badly hitting .162 over a 21 game period. In the last two games, Shelton hit the ball hard and had two hits in each game. Hopefully, this is the beginning of another steak.
