Jose Mesa Placed on DL

Jose Mesa was placed on the 15 day disabled list today with a groin pull. To replace him on the roster, the Tigers purchased the contract of Aquilino Lopez from Toledo. Edward Campusano was transferred from the 15 day DL to the 60 day DL to open up a spot on the 40 man roster. Mesa has not been much help so far allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Lopez, who turns 32 tomorrow, is a right-handed pitcher who had been closing games for the Mudhens. He had pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing no runs on just 1 hit with a 6/2 k/BB ratio. He's a true journeyman pitcher who has pitched in 7 different prganizations. He started out in the Mariner organization but never made it to Seattle. He has had 3 major league seasons for Toronto,Philadelphia and Colorado pitching 101 games all in relief. In 111 1/3 innings pitched, he has a 3.72 ERA and a 99/54 k/BB ratio. From those stats, you can see that his problem has been control. His best season was 2003 when had a 3.04 ERA in 73 2/3 innings pitched for the Blue Jays.
