Tigers Rally Past Devil Rays

The Tigers scored 4 runs in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th to overcome the Devil Rays 8-3 tonight. Dmitri Young (13 for 33 with 5 homers since his return from the disabled list) hit a two run home run in the first but that was all the Tiger scoring for the first 7 innings. Meanwhile, the Rays chipped away at Zach Miner and Jamie Walker and took a 3-2 lead after 6. But this was one of those games where you knew the Tigers would take it at the end. They have been devouring the weaker teams all year and it was just a matter of time before they would break through against the Devil Ray pitching staff.

The Tigers rallied for 4 runs in the 8th inning to take a 6-3 lead. Two runs scored on a double by Magglio Ordonez and, two batters later, Craig Monroe followed with his 16th home run of the year. After a slow start (.237/.273/.429 through June), Monroe has batted .340/.360/.608 since July 1. His slow starts and big summers are becoming very predictable. The Tigers added two more in the 9th on a sacrifice fly by Omar Infante and an RBI single by Carlos Guillen.

In other games today, the Twins were pounded by the Rangers 10-2 and the White Sox trail the Royals 5-3 in the 8th inning of a game which is currently being delayed. So, the Tigers may be back up by 8 1/2 again by the time you read this. In the series finale tomorow night, Nate Robertson will match-up against Jae Weong Seo.
